Brooks Koepka there was a pretty strong comeback Friday at the 2026 Mastersshooting a 69 to move into the top-15 on the leaderboard through two rounds.
Part of his improved game from Thursday’s 72 can be attributed to Koepka’s improvement off the tee. The five-time major champion lost more than four-tenths of a stroke off the tee on Thursday but gained nearly nine-tenths on Friday, according to DataGolf.
What caused the sudden turn? Koepka made a switch on his own Title GT3 surefit driver hose setup.
It just wasn’t one he knew he had to do.
“Yeah, I just drove it better. Some of my driver settings went from A1 to B1. Nobody noticed,” Keopka revealed after his round on Friday. “Going back to A1, which is what we usually had and just driving it better.”
According to @DataGolfBrooks Koepka gained 0.89 strokes OTT today in his second round 69 after missing 0.41 yesterday.
Apparently, Koepka realized that his Titleist GT3 tube setting was at B1 (0.75Ëš flat) instead of his preferred A1 (standard) setting.

He later confirmed that he discovered the setting on the driving range on Thursday afternoon after his opening round and changed it at that time.
The B1 setting puts Koepka’s driver three-quarters of a degree flatter than the standard setting he usually plays with. This can naturally cause his driver to play a little more to the right or move his shot position up to the toe, but it can also backfire if he was unconsciously reacting to the change.

All seven of Koepka’s fairways on Thursday were fair putts and came with driver.
Koepka hasn’t been his normal dominant self since returning to the PGA Tour earlier this year through the returning member program. In his last full season on the PGA Tour in 2021, he ranked 7th in SG:OTT, hitting .631 on the field. From 2014, his first year on the PGA Tour, through 2021, he never finished outside the top-28.
So far this season, he’s batted just .111 off the tee, ranking 76th.
What’s really interesting about these numbers is that, judging by the photos taken of Koepka’s driver, both by GOLF and other media outlets, it appears that his driver has been in the B1 setting all season. Koepka said GolfWRX in the Valspar Championship he had changed settings, but did not confirm what.
Actually DP World Tour gear surveyor Within Tour Golf On Twitter they recorded that Koepka was in the B1 setting of his driver back in July.
It just goes to show that even at the highest level, just a little tweaking of equipment can make a big difference.
With Koepka’s driver cooperating again, he will have his work cut out for him weekend and Augusta. As he enters the third round in a tie for 13th, he finds himself nine shots behind one defending champion Rory McIlroy.
