Brits in Zurich – runblogrun

The British in Zurich

Mary Moraa won the 800m with Georgia Bell second in 1:57.94. Gemma Rickey was fourth in 1:58.49. What a season Bell has had! Relatively unknown at the start of the year and finishing with Olympic and world indoor medals, establishing himself as a world-class 800m and 1500m runner. He commented on his race and the year: “I was on the front row so I knew I had to go out hard. I tried to be in the first group, then I went to the end. I am delighted with my racing style and my second place. I wanted to win at DL and I had a couple of second places today so I’m really hoping to win in Brussels. I took a few days after Paris, saw family and friends, and showed my grandmother my Olympic medal. After my last race I will see where the hottest place in Europe is and then I will go there to rest. I had a fantastic season. I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved.”

Dina Usher-Smith was third in the 100m in 10.89 behind Sha Curry Richardson and Julien Alfred. Daryl Neita was seventh in 11.1. Dina commented. “The weather could have been better, but I’m from London. When you grow up in this weather and it’s raining, you know it’s just another Tuesday. I was happy with my performance, so a few more training sessions and Brussels.”

Josh Kerr (3:31.46) was fifth in the 1,500, won by Jared Nuguse in 3:29.2. Kerr said the 5th Ave mile will be his last race of the season, adding: “It’s been a long year, from chasing world records in February to running in September. Everything was focused on the Olympics and now I’m just having fun. I didn’t quite have that tonight, but sometimes it happens.”

Alex Haydock-Wilson ran 45.41 for second place in the early evening 400m. Alex said: “The race was fun. The crowd was fantastic. The stadium is stunning, despite the weather, but that’s something I’ll have to get used to coming from the UK.”

Scott Lincoln was fifth in the shot put in 20.82 and Jacon Fincham-Dukes was fourth in the long jump. 7.92 in humid conditions.
