The 34-year-old bettered his previous record of 70.76m at the Ramona Throws Series World Invitational in Oklahoma.
Lawrence Okoye improved his own British discus record from 70.76m to 71.88m at the Ramona Throws Series World Invitational in Oklahoma on Saturday (April 11).
It is the fourth time Okoye has broken the national discus record and with his latest performance, it means the 34-year-old is now in the top 10 all-time in the world.
Okoye finished third as Australia’s Matt Denny won with 73.58m ahead of Germany’s Steven Richter with 72.47m.
Among those finishing behind Okoye were European champion Christian Cech of Slovenia and Olympic champion Roger Stona of Jamaica.
The location is known for its favorable wind conditions and was seen last year Mykola Alekna from Lithuania set a world record of 75.56 m.
