Breakdown! Tank Davis loses it when asked about Shakur and Haney

Gervonta Davis became upset today when he was reminded today that he has said in the past that he will fight Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney before retiring. Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) vehemently denied saying that, and appeared to be about to go postal.

With the ‘Face of Boxing’ tank revealing this week that he is retiring at the end of 2025 after three more fights, the media is putting his feet to the fire, pressing him for answers about WHEN he will fight Shakur and Haney. He shut that question down quickly.

Tank’s eyes bugged out when asked about those two, and he looked ready to explode. It was a good thing Devin and Stevenson weren’t in the room. You could tell by the way Davis reacted that he wasn’t playing. He was NEVER going to fight those guys. Davis says he has three fights left, but it’s unlikely either of those guys will get the pick next year.

“You said before you retire you want to fight Devin and Shakur. Is that still the plan?” a media member told Tank Davis today.

“I never said that. When did I say that? But I would for sure,” Gervonta said of being interested in fighting Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

After the way Davis responded to the question, future reporters should avoid this topic. It’s like the third rail for Tank, who wants nothing to do with those two.

The potential final three

  1. Ryan Garcia: Biggest money fight for Tank
  2. Vasily Lomachenko
  3. Teofimo Lopez

Stevenson was obviously upset when he saw Gervonta’s reaction today, seeing that payday he had hoped to get in 2025 float out the door. It would be a good idea for Shakur to give up on that fight because Tank doesn’t look like he’s kidding.

Promoter Eddie Hearn should scratch Tank’s name off the list as a potential opponent for Shakur next year. He said today that he wants William Zepeda for Stevenson after his fight with Floyd Schofield on February 22nd. He was hoping that Gervonta Shakur’s third fight would be in 2025, but that doesn’t look promising.

The money would be big for Shakur, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. What Stevenson has going against him to get the tank fight is clear. He is a runner, and he failed to fight the guys he needed to call his name.

For 2025, Shakur could fight these guys:

– Floyd Schofield
– William Zepeda
– Edwin De Los Santos

Shakur Stevenson: “Every time my name comes up, son gets really emotional. If you’re that bothered, make it in the ring, gangster,” Shakur Stevenson said. Xin response to Gervonta Davis going off on a reporter when his name was mentioned at the press conference today “Tell (Gervonta) to fight me then.”
