Among the few certainties that golf fans have been able to count on over the past couple of years are the following:
1. No end in sight for PGA Tour-PIF negotiations.
And 2. Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee has no love for LIV Golf has grown.
The latest example of these two truths came with last week’s announcement that LIV and Fox had reached an agreement to televise LIV events.
The multi-year deal, first reported by Sports Business Journalrepresents a huge win for LIV. It also represents a loss for anyone hoping a PGA Tour-PIF deal would see the fledgling league shut down.
Whether a final deal is close to being finalized or not, LIV doesn’t appear to be going anywhere.
Chamblee, of course, noted the important update in the years-long battle between LIV and the PGA Tour, and then took to X to express his strong opinions on the matter.
“Looking forward to specific financials,” Chamblee wrote of the LIV-FOX deal in X, continuing, “did Fox pay a fee for the rights or buy another time.”
Chamblee was referring to how normal TV works with sports leagues. Typically, the television network pays the league a large fee for the rights to broadcast its events.
However, LIV’s previous television deal with the CW did not include a rights fee. Instead, the two organizations brokered the deal as a revenue-sharing arrangement.
While the financial specifics of the new LIV-Fox deal are not officially known, it is believed that the deal will see Fox pay LIV a fee for the rights.
An X user responded to Chamblee criticizing him for never having a positive opinion of LIV. Chamblee replied: “Why would anyone who isn’t paid to obscure their objectivity ‘cover’ LIV in a positive light. The money comes down the drain and the product sounds worse than the source.”
