Summary of the latest results from UK roads in mid-November
BRAMPTON TO CARLISLE 10, inc Northern Athletics Championships, Nov. 17
Point-to-point races were once a staple of British road running, but many such as the Hogs Back and Chichester to Portsmouth have bitten the dust due to road conditions, but two major events such as the London Marathon and the Great North Half- have survived.
Carlisle from Brampton is now in its 72nd year, but the statisticians regularly note that it is sometimes run with a strong tailwind, which was not the case this year as Carl Avery battled with Morpeth clubmate Laurence McCourt before winning in 48:43. account.
Conditions were cold with little wind as Avery, who ran 2:17:09 at the Frankfurt Marathon just three weeks ago, retained his title 39 seconds faster than the 2023
The women’s division was won by 2022 winner Steph Pennycook in 54:38, 13 seconds better than her previous time on the course, which was also second in 2021 and 2013.
Pennycook now heads to the Valencia Marathon, his debut over the distance, in the next two weeks.
