Tim Bradley believes Devin Haney is making a mistake to beat WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. to downgrade, and call him a “boom” ahead of their fight in 12 days time on November 22 in Riyadh.
The oddsmakers consider Norman Jr. not as a “tramp,” for they had installed him as the favorite in battle. Still, former two-division world champion Haney, 26, may not get full credit for a win over Norman Jr because he is not well-known among casual boxing fans.
The hardcore fans obviously know him well, but the casual fans may not. The 24-year-old Norman Jr. isn’t long enough yet, and the only notable win on his seven-year pro resume is against Giovani Santillan. That fight was not a headliner. It was on the undercard of Emanuel Navarrete vs. Denys Berinchyk on 18 May 2024.
Norman Jr. the Dark Horse
“You call your opponent a ‘Bum,’ that’s crazy. If you win this fight, do you want no credit for this?” said Tim Bradley on his channelreacts to Devin Haney attacking WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. labeled as a ‘Bum’. “You’re fighting a dark horse (Norman Jr.) with nothing to lose and everything to gain. All the pressure is on you, Haney.
Three division stakes, one risk
Devin might not care if he doesn’t get full credit for beating Norman Jr. The important thing is that he will become a three-division world champion, hold the WBO 147-lb title, and that will open the door for a lucrative rematch with Ryan Garcia.
Haney will make a lot of money in that fight with Kingry, as it’s the one he’s been waiting for for the last year and a half since losing to him on April 20, 2024.
Haney (32-0, 16 KOs) tries to get a mental edge against the ultra-confident Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs). It just didn’t work. His attempts to undermine the WBO champion’s self-belief were ineffective.
Norman Jr. carries himself like a person who just knows he’s going to punch holes through Haney and be victorious in their fight on November 22 at the ANB Arena in Riyadh.
Bradley predicts Deja Vu
“Haney, you get on your bike when you feel those thumps bro. Brian Norman Jr. don’t come in there to box,” Bradley said. “He’s going to powerbox your a**. When you get caught with that left hook again, you’re going to be taken down memory lane. It’s going to be Ryan Garcia again.”
Bradley’s prediction of Haney getting on his “bike” when he feels Norman Jr’s power may come true. Haney is not going to stand and trade with Norman Jr because he has too much power for him to fight like that. His only chance to win is to move, stay on the outside, throw hard jabs and hold a lot.
In the clinch, Haney Norman Jr. probably hitting the side of the head, then looking to immediately nail him with a shot when the ref breaks them up.
