Per TM Madison: In an era where Turki Alalshikh threw millions into boxing, you would think that Fight fans would eventually find the matches they begged for. But instead of delivering dream fights, promoters are feeding to feed our glorified firing sessions – cards that are piled up with big names fighting opponents that no one asked for.
Take the most recent map: Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo were both seen, but not against each other. Fans have been looking for the fight years ago since planting hell out of Charlo. The build -up was there. The tension was real. But instead of capitalizing, we got two separate, forgettable battles. And now, with the loss of aptitude, we may never see the game – or at best, wait for it to mean something again.
And it is not once-it still happens.
We had Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua on the same map, just for Wilder to lose against Joseph Parker before the game could even be mocked. Then there was the map with Speedy Rashidi Ellis and Jaron “Boots” Ennis – fans were set up for a future show. But they fought separate opponents, and lost quickly and killed the buzz. Or look at the event with Theofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia on the same night, but none of them fought each other. It was marketed as historically. It eventually forgotable.
This pattern is exhausting. Promoters continue to stack cards with recognizable names, hoping that Star Power will only lead to the lack of real interests, rivalry or risks. But fans see it through. It’s bait-and-switch marketing, and people are tired of being played.
If box really wants a revival, then you stop protecting records and start making the fights that people actually want.
Give us the action. Give us the drama. Give us the matches that matter.
Because no amount or flash can cover a card full of missed opportunities.
