Boxing results: Zepeda earns a majority decision on the farmer; Collazo counts dramatic ko in cancun


WBC Tuesday lightweight champion William Zepeda won a 12-round majority decision on Saturday night over former IBF Super Featherweight Champion Tevin Farmer in the main event in the Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

The Southpaw Zepeda, 33-0 (27), won a 12-round majority decision on Farmer, 33-8-1 (8). In the first round it was nearby, as Zepeda may have taken it out. In the second round, it was all Zepeda, who injured the farmer in the final seconds. In the third round, Zepeda continued to put the pressure on the farmer, who counteracted when he could.

In the first two minutes of the fourth round, it was all zepeda to the body. In the last minute, farmer came back after Zepeda was hurt. In the last seconds it was Zepeda rally. In the fifth round, Zepeda backed the farmer the whole round when Farmer resisted Zepeda with a left bean in the final seconds.

In the sixth round, if Farmer seems to be injured, he comes back with capital letters and stops Zepeda in his tracks. In the seventh through the ninth rounds, Zepeda went through a farmer again.

In the tenth round, the farmer counteracted Zepeda well. In the eleventh round, the farmer counteracted well until the final seconds, when his tire had to be wrapped again.

In the twelfth and final round, Farmer seemed to have a knockout after a minute, but referee Mike Griffin calls it a slip. Farmer had his best round of the fight and tried to pull it out while he was surpassed almost three to one.

Scores 114-114, 116-112 and 115-113.

In the co-main event WBA Super World and WBO Mini Champ Southpaw Oscar ‘El Purguro’ Collazo, 12-0 (9), Southpaw Edwin ‘Canito’ Cano, 13-3-1 (4), knocked out of the fifth round of a scheduled 12 rounds at 1:12.

In the first two rounds, Collazo had the lead, and worked out. In the fourth round, Collazo Cano injured. Cano came back and landed half a dozen bumps.

Collazo landed a body shot in the fifth round and pressed Cano to the canvas while referee Miguel Canul Cano scored.

Flyweight Joselito ‘El Huracan’ Velazquez, 21-1-1 (13) defeated Adolfo ‘Lee’ Castillo, 12-5-2 (7) over 10 rounds. In the first round, due to a clash of heads, Velazquez was cut outside the right eyebrow. In the third round, Velazquez ended up on the chin and fluctuates castillo. Again, another clash of heads due to Castillo coming in with his head, which caused him a point.

In the fourth round, the supporters began to cheer for Velazquez, who worked out Castillo. In the sixth round, Velazquez landed a few left to Castillo’s body. In the seventh round, another clash of heads and castillo was cut on the forehead.

In the eighth round, Velazquez cut on the left eyebrow this time. In the tenth and final round, Velazquez Castillo injured in the last minute. Celestino Castro was the referee.

The scores 100-89, 100-89 and 97-92

Cruiserweight Rob ‘Robz’ Sirwan Safar, 18-0 (13) stopped Roberto Silva, 13-3 (7), about 02:55 of the fifth round of a scheduled 10 rounds.

In the second and third rounds, Safar Silva rocked with rights on the chin. In the fifth round, a right of safar on the chin knocked out the mouthpiece of Silva, followed by a combination that injured him when the referee called a downtime.

WBC World Mini Champion Yokasta Valle, 33-3, (10) defeated by a split decision on former WBA, WBC, WBO flying champion Marlen Esparza, 15-3 (1) over 10 × 2 rounds.

In the first round, Esparza was the aggressor, with traps that mostly encountered Jabs. From the second to the fourth rounds, falls exceeded with overhand rights.

In fifth to seventh place, Esparza returned well enough to take several rounds. In the eighth round, Valle came back with the better hand speed to win the round. In the ninth round, Esparza returned with more country. In the tenth and last round, both had their moments.

The scores were 96-94 for Esparza and 97-93, 97-93 for Valle.
