Jorge Perez (33-4, 26 costs) pulled off a great dismay and defeated the previously unbeaten junior middleweight contender Charles Conwell (21-1, 16 COs) by a 12-round decision on Saturday night in their fellow factory in the Front Golf arena in Oceanside, California.
Perez’s volume pons and machine gun combinations were a pure nightmare for Conwell tonight. Charles couldn’t match the production of Perez, and the only thing he could do was Maul.
Body work pays off
The Lanky 6’0 ″ Perez fought a big fight, went to the body and weakened Conwell with those shots. In response, Conwell spent a large part of the battle disappearing Perez and holding short blows on the inside. The tactics suffocated its own power and played in the hands of the better conditioned perez.
When there was separation, Perez fired fast-fire combinations to Conwell’s head. Perez would mix double and triple brackets to the body that may have impressed the judges.

Afterwards, Conwell may regret that he has chosen so much to choose, because he did not take off his shots with full power. The image of Conwell constantly created the impression that he did not want to fight, and was afraid to be beaten by Perez when the action was on the outside.
Conwell was at his best in the first four rounds, because it was when he landed hard bumps and was still fresh. Perez took over in the second half with his combination punch and aggressiveness. He worked harder than Conwell. The referee warned Charles because he could have hit rabbit a few times in battle. With the mauling that Conwell did, it was difficult for him not to drop bumps on the back of Perez’s head.
