Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu (25-2, 18 COs) lost his two battle on Saturday night with a fourth round technical knockout by Joey Spencer (19-2, 11 COs) in their capital letter in the Newcastle Entertainment Center in Australia.
The fight was competitive by the third round, with Spencer, 24, landed nice shots and handled Tszyu’s hard push without much problems. However, things went off for Spencer in fourth place when he was injured by a heavy right hand of Tszyu.
Tszyu’s spate
Once Tim realized that Spencer was injured, he have unleashed a 20-punch flurry Of bumps, throw them with a quick velocity. Spencer then turned his back and walked away. Tim added one last punch for a good partner when Spencer walked away, which was a cheap shot, but now yes. There was bad blood between them, and it was perhaps his way of getting a little extra in. The official time of the downtime was 2:18.
Tszyu was ahead of the scores 29-28, 29-28 and 29-28.
It was a good win for Tszyu, but it was not a top fighter he had to deal with. Spencer was selected as a relief for Tim for losing his last two fights and needed a pick-up to get back on the winning track to establish a money fight against Keith Thurman in Australia.
Boxing fans could get excited about what Tszyu did tonight if he was connected to Vergil Ortiz Jr., Serhii Bohachuk, Israil Madrimov, Bakhram Murtazaliev or Charles Conwell. In other words, fighters with a highly regarded fighters would all prefer to defeat Tszyu. Joey Spencer was not highly regarded. He was not in the top 15 by any of the four sanctions. That’s for a reason.
Tszyu scored his victory tonight and can now face former Welterweight Champion Thurman, 36, in a money fight in the summer if he does it through training camp without canceling another fight as we saw last year.
