WBO Minimum Champion Sarah ‘Babyface’ Bormann (21-1 (7)) won a highly contested 10-round split decision over former WBO World Atom Minimumweight Champion southpaw Yuko Luroki (25-9-2 (10)) on Saturday night at the Wandsbeker Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany.
In the first two rounds, Luroki started well and outplayed Bormann with mostly jabs. In the third round, Bormann continued to hurt Luroki without a warning from the referee.
In the fourth round, Bormann hit without a warning at the break. Luroki looked good ahead. In the fifth and sixth rounds, Luroki continued to land the faster hands and footwork.
In the seventh and eighth rounds, Bormann continues to plod forward and is countered by Luroki. In the ninth round’s last minute, a clash of heads caused a nasty cut to Bormann’s forehead. In the tenth and final round, the blood flowed from the forehead of Bormann. Luroki won easily, but the commentator saw fit and sided with Bormann the entire fight.
The scores were 97-93 for Luroki, 96-95 and 97-93 for Bormann.
Heavyweight 44-year-old Rydell ‘Rockin Rye’ Booker (27-11-1 (14) was stopped at 1:54 of the fifth round of a scheduled 10 round bout by Petar Milas (19-1 (15)).
In the first round, Milas started with a southpaw, switched to orthodox, with Booker against the ropes the entire round on the defensive. In the third round’s final seconds, Milas dropped Booker with a left to the body for an 8 count. In the fifth round, Milas dropped Booker twice with body shots before the fight was finally stopped.
Light heavyweight Marco Aschenbrenner (1-0-1 (1) drew over four rounds with Denzel Ousterwolde (2-1-1 (0).
In the first round, Ousterwolde drove just after Aschnebrenner. Both went to the body for the most part. In the third round, Ousterwolde went to the body throughout and easily took the round. In the fourth and final round, it was the best round of the fight for the fans and a draw with Aschnebrenner at the age of 47 getting a second wind.
Middleweight Anto Nakic (1-34) lost by a four-round points decision against Daniel Meyer (2-0).
In the first round, Nakic lost his mouthpiece twice. In the second round, Meyer outmatched Nakic. In the third round, due to a clash of heads, Meyer had a cut on his right eyebrow. In the fourth and final round, Meyer continued to work out Nakic, who lost his mouthpiece for the third time when the referee deducted a point.
The referee scored it 40-35.
Welterweight Jonny Sanchez (20-8 (13)) was defeated by Vedat Deniz (17-0 (10) by a six-round points decision. Deniz scored two knockouts.
In the second round Deniz dropped Sanchez with a right to the body for an 8 count. In the third round, Sanchez came back well, although Deniz still outplayed him.
In the fifth round, Deniz knocked out the mouthpiece of Sanchez with a right to the chin. A right to the ribs from Deniz dropped Sanchez. In the sixth and final round, Deniz again knocked out the mouthpiece of Sanchez. The round was close. Sanchez fought orthodox and southpaw throughout the fight.
The referee scored it 60-52.
