Boxing results: Revenge served: Munguia learns from the past, dominates the tired Surace in Rematch despite a lack of significant improvement

Former junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 COs) received his revenge by beating Bruno Surace (26-1-2, 5 COs) on Saturday night in their re-broadcast on the spot in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Surace, 26, looked like 24k gold in the early course, and the punch-like Munguia repeatedly hit with lightning-fast right hands. The shots were striking, and the impact was impressive.

Bruno’s work rate gradually dropped from rounds five to twelve. This allowed Mungiaa to take over and kiss after victory.

Around the center of the fight, Bruno started taking out, giving land and not keeping the action in the middle of the ring. He did not hit much through Munguia, but he would still retreat to the ropes and cover like a sparring partner. Munguia used it to ward off the rounds and win.

In rounds 10 to 12 you could see that Surace was tired and had nothing left of its power. He threw a lot of pushing into those rounds and mostly moved around and shot.

Munguia was much more disciplined tonight, his guard stopped and did not fight recklessly against Surace as in December last year when he was knocked out in six rounds in Tijuana, Mexico.

I wish I could say that Munguia seemed to have made great improvements from his previous fight, but I can’t. He still looked like the same participant in the MeF that he had always been his entire career. The difference was that Surace was worse. He did not show the power he had in the early rounds in the second round, and Mungiaa made him strike at will.

Any Super -Middelweight contender in the division would have done the same as Surace who did Munguia. He was just the man who faced him tonight because of the need for their re -broadcast.

Edgar Berlanga spoke to have a fight against Munguia if he wins his fight on July 12 against Hamzah Sheeraz in New York. It can be an option for Munguia if he wants a nice payday. This would be a 50-50 battle between two flawed contenders.
