Boxing results: relentless Iglesias Stop Shishkin, Farm Canelo on Knowledge

IBO Super Middle Weight Champion Osleys Iglesias (14-0, 13 COs) retained its unbeaten record and recorded an eighth round technical knockout of Vladimir Shishikin (16-2, 10 COs) in an IBF 168-LB title Thursday night in the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada.

Iglesias’ relentless barrage

Iglesias went out through seven rounds through the defensive Shishkin. In eighth place, the Cuban Iglesias changed tactics and dropped off on Shishikin with a barrage of pushing after hurting him with a left hand. Shishkin tried his best to survive by moving, clinching and covering.

With nothing thrown back by Shishikin, referee Michael Griffin had no choice but to step in and stop the competition. It was a good step, because Iglesias dropped off at Shishikin at will, and he was too hurt to rest anything in his own defense.

If the referee had allowed it to continue, Osleys would surely have laid out Shishkin. He saw the condition in which Vladimir was, and he could not record another 20 consecutive head shots.

Shishikin did well by using most of the competition using his punch and refuge method to prevent Iglesias’s powerful right hook, chewing on top and left shots. It wasn’t nice to look at the constant retreating style of Shishikin, but it was effective.

Osley’s best rounds in front of the eighth were the third and fifth place in which he landed a few cruel right heels that cut Shishkin’s head back hard. He took them well, but you could see that it was only a matter of time before Iglesias finally knocked him out.

Unconventional power of osleys

Olseys’ shots were strange. The Cuban Iglesias looked uncomfortable with the way he threw shots and often missed badly. He looked a lot, but when the bumps landed, you could hear the sound and judge of Shishikin’s response that he did not enjoy the experience of the ring with him.

It was a different experience than Shikshikin went through in his previous battle against William Scull, who did not fight aggressively, and his pungent connection was low. Osleys, 27, were on the attack all night and forced Shishkin to survive.

A new threat to Canelo

With the win, Iglesias, 27, is now the IBF -sheltered challenger for the title Canelo Alvarez Holds. The way Osleys watched tonight, I do not believe the winner of Canelo against Terence Crawford will agree to fight against him. He strikes too hard, and he has power in both hands. In my opinion, I doubt whether Canelo or Crawford would take the chance to fight against Iglesias. He may have to wait until the IBF title is stripped or evacuated.

The way Iglesias runs his shots makes it difficult to see them until it’s too late. He looks like a larger version of the Lanky Featherweight Champion, Rafael Espinoza.
