Super-featherweight Raymond Ford (18-1, 8 COs) used his smart defense skills to acquire a match Abraham Nova (24-4, 17 COs), and won a unanimous decision of 10 round in the Anb Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
Ford struggled in the first six rounds with the constant attacking style of Nova, moved away and worked on the inside. The Puerto Rico-born Nova’s push and in-fuel capacity was a nightmare for Ford. The American did not own the doll in his shots to fit the shots of Nova.
The judges’ scores were 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93.
Nova performed the first seven rounds better with the action, and he seems to have won all the rounds. Ford had no power and held on like crazy. The control of Eddie Hearn-promoted Ford should have led to warnings and punishment from the referee, but he allowed it.
Nova turned it on in the 10th round and loaded it on each punch, which dominates Ford, which overlooks the dominance and is exhausted from the punishment he took up. Ford couldn’t do anything in this round.
The DAZN commentary team was embarrassed and gave an unclear image of the struggle. They made it look like Ford dominated every round, which wasn’t what was happening.
