Boxing results: Moton stops Zaldivar in the 3rd round

In the first preliminary attack on the David Benavidez vs David Morrell Event Card, Mayweather Promotions Blue-Chip Prospect Curmel stopped “Big Deal” Moton Frank Zaldivar (5-2, 3 COs) in the third round.

In a match scheduled for eight rounds, 18-year-old Phenom Curmel Moton showed a tremendous amount of talent in a short time. Moton showed aggression, speed, power, technique, work rate, accuracy and punching.

After being connected to a few tight stiffs, Curmel Moton landed a spate of shots on the head and body of his opponent. Moton controlled the majority of the first round, but Zaldivar closed the round by pushing forward and connecting with some strong left brackets.

In the second round, Zaldivar continued to exert pressure and he was trapped by a hard counter left hook. Moton transferred his offensive attack from top to bottom, while on several occasions he ended up combinations to Zaldivar’s body.

With 45 seconds left to go in the second round, Moton landed a large left hook that visibly injured Zaldivar. At the beginning of the 3rd round, Moton touched Zaldivar several times, and then Moton continued to land a combination of David Benavidez in the head and body of his opponent.

At the center of the third round, Curmel Moton and Frank Zaldivar stood in the bag and exchanged shots. Moton ends up a sharp combination of three punch that forced Zaldivar into the ropes. Moton was in attack mode when he threw several shots that could enter the high guard of Zaldivar.

Referee Harvey Dock noted how Zaldivar was punishing, but he fired no shots. Dock was ready to stop the fight, but he gave Zaldivar a final warning when he said, “You have to show me something honest.”

28-year-old Frank Zaldivar did not respond to the referee’s warning because he continued to be hit by solid shots. When the referee noted that Zaldivar still did not produce any offense, he decided to step in and stop the competition.

With the win, Curmel Moton (7-0, 6 COs) officially kicked off his 2025 campaign. Moton’s expectation is to continue to improve his skills by making a total of four to five ring appearances this year.
