Light-welterweight contender Ernesto Mercado (17-0, 16 CO’s) made a statement tonight and the former world champion Jose ‘Sniper’ Pedraza (29-7-1, 14 COs) stopped by a fourth round knockout in a scheduled 10 -Ards fight Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Chelsea Ballroom, Las Vegas.

Mercado, 23, stunned pedraza with a left hook, followed by a sharp right hand behind the ear to send him on the canvas. Pedraza was slow to get up and, when he finally did, he had a little shaky. Referee Robert Hoyle once looked at him and stopped the fight. The time was 2:08 of the fourth.
The difference in size and power or Mercado was too much for Pedraza, which could not match him. Pedraza looked like he was afraid to be cut the whole fight and made Mercado throw most of the shots in the unilateral match.
After the fight, Mercado called out Shakur Stevenson and said he wanted him next. Shakur did not look eager in the crowd to mess with this young talent.
