Two-time world heavyweight title challenger Kubrat Pulev (32-3, 14 KOs) finally captured his first major title on Saturday night with a 12-round unanimous decision over WBA ‘ordinary’ champion Mahmoud Charr (34-5, 20 KOs ). at the Arena Sophia in Sofia, Bulgaria.
One Sided Affair
The 43-year-old Pulev showed his excellent amateur pedigree by using his jab and wide jabs to batter the ring-rusty Charr in every round of the fight. It was pure dominance from 2008 Olympian Pulev, who still has his skills intact.
Charr took a lot of punishment in this fight and by the tenth round was getting hit around the face. He looked like he had been through a great ordeal to take all the heavy shots from Pulev as well as beautiful jabs. Pulev, 6’5″, has always had an excellent jab, and he still does. He used it like a power shot tonight, nailing Charr repeatedly.

Charr made the mistake of using Pulev as his first opponent after a two-year layoff, and in hindsight he should have opted for an easier one.
It will be interesting to see if Pulev can turn his WBA ‘ordinary’ heavyweight title into a big payday against the winner of the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksander Usyk rematch fight. It would be a dream come true because the money would be nice for Pulev. A matchup against Jake Paul would also be excellent.
