Andreas ‘Katz’ Katzourakis (16-0, 11 cost) Roberto ‘El Terror de Cayey’ Cruz (11-1, 7 costs) at 2:37 of the seventh round for the vacant WBA Continental Americas Super Welterweight title stopped at Red Owl Boxing Arena, Houston, TX. Breyon Gorham defeated Luis Feliciano in the co-chief event with a unanimous decision of 10 round.
In the first minute of the second round, Cruz had its way out and landed Katzourakis, which came back well for the rest of the round. Cruz had an lead in an action round in the third and fourth rounds. In the fifth round’s final seconds, Katzourakis Cruz injured with a wave of pushing.
In the final seconds of the sixth round, Katzourakis Cruz drove in the ropes, which looked like a knockout, but referee John Schorle blowed it off as if it were a slip. In the last minute of the seventh round, Katzourakis Cruz drove to the canvas while Cruz’s corner threw the towel and ended the fight.
In the Co-Main event, the Super Lightweight Breyon ‘Grindtime’ Gorham, 19-0 (15), Luis Feliciano, 17-3 (8), with a unanimous decision of 10 rounds, has a knockout.
In the first round, previously unbeaten and some losses, Feliciano was surpassed. From the second through the seventh rounds, Feliciano made a fight, although Gorham largely got the best of it.
In the eighth round, Gorham Feliciano opposed a right to the chin and dropped him for an 8 scores by referee James Green.
Both had moments in the ninth round, with Gorham having a lead. In the tenth and last round, knowing he was well behind Feliciano, he had his best round gorham.
The scores were 98-91, 97-92 and 99-90.
Super lightweight Giovanni Marquez, 12-0 (6) beat Esteban ‘Stone Hands’ Munoz, 10-4 (5) by a unanimous decision of 8 round to win the continental title in America.
In the first round, Munoz Marquez worked out until Marquez left with a minute, Marquez Munoz shook a right to the chin. Munoz ended up a combination in the third round, and Marquez threw. In the fourth round, Marquez had a lead. In his corner is former world champion Raul Marquez.
Marquez had a small cut outside his right eye at the end of the fifth round of Slugfest. In the seventh round, they largely fought at an even level. In the eighth and final round, Marquez Munoz had against the ropes with a wave of pushing until the final seconds when Munoz last ended up on a chin.
The scores were 78-74, 78-74 and 79-73. Joe Rodriguez was the referee.
Lightweight Southpaw Oscar ‘El Chato’ Perez, 13-0-2 (7), defeated Cesar ‘Corazon’ Juarez, 31-19 (24), with a unanimous eight-round decision.
In the first three rounds, Perez dominated. In the fourth round, referee James Green took a point of Juarez for low strokes. In the fifth round, a leftist of Perez on the Ken Juarez dropped for an 8 scores by referee Green. In the eighth and last round, both let it all hang out, with Juarez having a bloody nose.
Scores were 80-70, 80-70 and 79-71.
Super-middleweight seams ‘brickbuster’ lugo, 4-0 (4), ‘the Italian stallion’ Austin Dulworth, 4-4 (1), stopped at about 02:47 of the fifth round of a scheduled six-round.
In the first three rounds, Lugo won all three in an action -packed attack. In the fourth round, at the end of a minute, a right of Lugo went to the chin and down Dulworth for an 8 scores by referee John Schorle. In the fifth round, with fifteen seconds left, a spate of Lugo forced referee Schorle to stop.
The middleweight Elijah ‘Kaboom’ Lugo, 2-0) defeated Chris Porter, 2-3-2 (2) by a unanimous four-round decision.
In the first twenty seconds of the first round, Lugo Porter with a right hurled to the chin. In the fourth and last round, it was all Lugo who tried but did not get the standstill.
The scores were 40-36, 40-36 and 40-36.
