IBF and WBO mid-weight champion Janibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 COs) made easy work of the few well-known contender Anauel Ngamissengue (14-1, 9 COs), who knocked him out in the Barys Arena, Astana, in Kazakhstan on Saturday night.
The finish
Janibek dropped Ngamissengue in the fifth round after being connected to two major clues. The referee blew it off after watching Ngamissengue well after coming up again.
It was a good fight between these two because they exchanged very heavy shots. The left hands of the Southpaw Janibek were the difference. He had too much power in them for #7 IBF and #13 WBO Ngamissengue to handle.
Compared to his previous battles, Janibek hit much more tonight than usual. One reason is that he chose to fight close, with his excessive opponent. In the first round, Janibek, 32, landed a large left side on the head that Ngamissengue put down with the left hand.
After that knockout, Janibek fought as he was close to the fear of his Congo-born opponent and was prepared to get into the trenches with him.
Adames or Lara?
With this victory, Janibek is ready to focus on the fight against unification against the other two champions. These are the two champions he is likely to direct:
- Carlos Adames – WBC
- Erislandy Lara – WBA
Of the two, Adames would be the more interesting because of the attention he received from his recent draw against Hamzah Sheeraz. However, January is unlikely to be able to fight in Adames next time if he prefers to encounter Hamzah in a rematch. If he is available, it is the man he must face.
The 41-year-old Erislandy Lara (31-3-3, 19 COs) exists forever and is very familiar to Hardcore Boxing fans, who many years ago remember him for his fight against Canelo Alvarez, Paul Williams and Vanes Martirosyan. Lara would be a difficult style for January because of his Southpaw style and smooth goat skills he learned many years ago in his years in the Cuban national team. Lara has power as well as technical ability that can cause Janapek to great problems.
