Gabriela ‘Sweet Poison’ Fundora (17-0, 9 COs) successfully defended her IBF, WBC and WBO female flyweight titles with a seventh round TKO over Alexis Kubicki (13-2, 2 costs) Saturday night in the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
In the seventh place, the referee told Kubicki, 22, that she was taking too much punishment. He then let her look through the doctor of the ring to see if she was in order. Her right eye was bruised, her nose bleeds, and her face was red from all the hard bumps with which the high 5’9 ″ Southpaw Fundora beat her.
Flurry ends the battle
After the seventh began, Fundora turned off at Kubicki and hit her with combinations and hard right heels. Fundora then backed up Kubicki and downloaded a spate of fast fire combinations that caught her clean, which forced the referee to step in and stop the competition. The time of the downtime was 43 seconds of the seventh round.
The fight could have stopped two rounds earlier, as Kubicki looked at her coach as he was hammered by Fundora. It was clear that she wanted out of the fight, and who could blame her? It was completely one -sided at that point.
Kubicki initially tried to keep the action close to preventing fundora from getting lever on her shots, but it was not effective. She got no power on her shots and mostly just struggled. Surprisingly, Fundora was the better inside fighter and occasionally landed some nice shots.
Fundora feels underestimated
“I felt good. I’m glad I got a knockout again. I expected her to come 1000%, but I did. I felt it was the very first push I threw, ‘said Fundora after the fight. “I felt she underestimated me. Of course they look at her. Obviously, something is wrong with me. I just have to finish her. I need to talk to my team to see what the next step is for me.
