Lightweight Deonte ‘Lay EM Down’ Brown easily defeated Dennis ‘Martillo’ Contreras with a unanimous eight round decision Friday at the Red Owl Boxing Arena in Houston, Texas.
After almost three years, Southpaw Brown, 16-0 (11), Contreras, 24-18-1 (22) came through an eight-round decision.
In the first two rounds, Brown used a good stitch as controlled, with hands held high in return. In the third round, Contreras constantly comes forward and browns brown in the bumps of the faster hands. In the fourth round, Brown’s right hook hit the canvas in the final seconds, but referee Joe Rodriguez calls it a slip.
In the seventh round, contreras, in a corner, brown in, and when he enters, a combination of knowing contreras ends up, which cannot handle the velocity of the brown hand. In the final seconds, controls finally land some rights.
In the eighth and last round, it was all brown until the last half minute when Contreras landed a left hook and knocked out Brown’s mouthpiece.
Scores were 80-72, 80-72 and 80-72.
In the co-chief event, lightweight Javier Martinez, Jr. 7-2 (4) A disputed six-round decision to lose Wayne ‘Pretty Boy Bam Bam’ Lawrence, 8-1 (4).
In the first round, Martinez, who returned after nearly three years, was in a close round with Lawrence. Both with identical records came to fight. In the second round, it was all Martinez, although referee James Green warned them twice to keep up.
In the third round, Martinez never stopped throwing bumps, mostly handed rights, because Lawrence tied him up during the round.
In the fourth round, Martinez was warned for striking twice while in a clinic. Another round for Martinez. Lawrence had little more than a stitch. In the fifth round, Lawrence continued to grab and grab Martinez without warning, but Martinez worked out. In the sixth and final round, referee Green finally warns Lawrence for constant possession. Martinez won another round with incessant punch.
The scores were 59-55 for Lawrence, 58-56 for Martinez, and 58-56 for Lawrence. 60-54 KH for Martinez.
Lightweight Gabriela ‘Sosa’ Tellez, 4-0 (1), Stop Lindsey ‘Hands of Steel’ Ellis, 2-2 (2), at 0:31 of the second round of a 4 × 2 rounds.
Tellez was Ellis in the first round and drove her around the ring. In the last minute, a right of blood draws from Ellis’s nose. Tellez had Ellis defenseless against the ropes in the second round when referee James Green wisely brought a standby.
Welterweight Southpaw Alex Donis (1-0) came off the canvas to defeat Andrew ‘Durango Kid’ Flamm (1-1) by a unanimous four-round decision.
In the first round, a clash of heads caused a cut on the left eyebrow of flamm. In the second round, an advantage of Flamm on the Chin Donis dropped an 8 scores by referee Joseph Rodriguez. Donis had a bloody nose.
In the third round, Donist returned well enough to take the round. In the fourth and final round, Flamm was cut on the right eyebrow from a right of Donis, which exceeded Flamm.
The scores were 38-37, 38-37 and 38-37.
