Boxing results: Deontay Wilder’s disappointing Comeback: Shell of the former Self in TKO victory over Tyrrell Herndon

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 43 COs) looked like a shell from his former self in the protrusion of travel man Tyrrell Anthony Herndon (24-6, 15 COs) in the seventh round in his Comeback Friday night in the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.

Wilder landed in seventh place in seventh place at the head of the exhausted Herndon, who asked referee Ray Corona to stop the fight. The time was at 2:16 of round seven.

Wilder’s power, speed away

Herndon (37) was down in rounds 2 and 6. The Knockdown in round two was out of a left hand by Deontay, which caught Herndon when he jumped into a shot. In sixth place, Wilder Tyrell caught the ropes and clubed him with shots and hit him with a right head.

Deontay’s decline

  • Loss of hand speed
  • Power is away in the right hand
  • Poor accuracy
  • Timid

Wilder could not end up with some accuracy, not even with Herndon standing right in front of him. Deontay will miss repeatedly with his right and left hands.

What was striking was the loss of hand speed, power and accuracy with Wilder. His right hand was much slower than it used to be, and it did not have the same crushing power as it was before. He said in an interview this week that he has to do with a real shoulder problem that has affected his power in the arm.

He said the injury healed. However, Deontay’s lack of power and loss of hand speed with his right showed that the injury was still there. If this is a permanent situation, Wilder does not go well against any heavyweight of the top 15. Herndon is not a top fighter.

Wilder should now fight against Joshua

It would be a good idea for ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to try to fight Anthony Joshua as soon as possible. It would be too risky for Deontay to get off the fight, because he can’t keep fighting at a low -level opposition like he did tonight without fans criticizing him.

Wilder’s left hand shines

Tonight Deontay’s best weapon was his left hand. His stitch and left hook looked just as good as in the past. However, it would not be enough for Wilder to beat good heavyweights. The way he looked tonight he would have lost to the lower feeders on #15 in the division.
