#1 WBC-ranked light welterweight contender Dalton Smith (18-0, 13 COs) used his massive great advantage to make a wide 12-round decision against #14 IBF-standing contender Mathieu Germain (26-3-1, 11 costs) on Saturday night.

Smith dropped Germain (35, three times in battle, in rounds 2, 11 and 12.
The scores were 117-107, 119-105 and 119-105.
Annoyance visible
Germain spent most of the fighting through the ring and tried to evade the heavy shots of Dalton, which looked two divisions larger in the ring than he was. Dalton looks like a junior middleweight fight at Light Welterweight. With that kind of size disadvantage, Germain had no chance against him; That’s why he kept going throughout, Smith held and frustrating.
At the end of the fight, Smithi was visibly annoyed by Mathieu because he did not stand still, so that he could land his big power shots to strike him. He tried to push the crowd to be silent, which was stupid.
Hearn’s strategy
The person who should be mad at Smith is his promoter, Eddie HearnFor the choice of Germaine from near the rock below the 140 pound rankings on the #14 place. It is unclear why Hearn Dalton linked Germain, rather than one of the high -time top five contenders who can deliver a true test.
This is the magical question, because Smith has not gained any real experience from this struggle, and certainly did not prepare him to challenge the WBC Light Welterweight Champion Alberto Puello, which is much better than this man. He was able to match Smith against Gary Antuanne Russell or Subriel Matias instead of Germaine to prepare him for his title shot. Of course, it would have been risky because these guys had power that Smith would have given problems.
Smith is too big to fight for the 140-pound IBF title against Richardson Hitchins, because there is a 10-pound rehydration rule that he will have to fulfill. There is no chance that Smith could do the secondary weight control without draining himself to the point where he would be an easy mark for Hitchins.
