Bruce Carrington (16-0, 9 COs) used his boxing skills to defeat the heavy-handed Mateus Heita (14-1, 9 COs), and won a wide 12-round decision on Saturday night to conquer the WBC Tus-Entire Featherweight title in the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
Carrington, 28, thought better than roasting with the more powerful Heita, and preferred to paste and move all night. It worked perfectly to win a wide decision through the scores 119-109, 119-109 and 120-108.

Heita landed well when Carrington stopped moving, but he didn’t have enough opportunities. He must have taken more chances to make it an exciting battle.
“I wanted to show that I could do the full 12 rounds. I showed that championship level through those 12 rounds. I feel good. I feel in shape. I feel sharp and ready for the next level, ‘says Carrington in the After-fighting interview.
Carrington’s unpleasant goat style
It was not an impressive performance by Carrington. He moved too much and was not prepared to get involved in every round during long stretches. His actions were much like Xander Zayas in the main event. It was too much running and holding.
“I’m ready. I called out all the champions. They already know it. I see (WBO Featherweight Champion Rafael) Espinoza in the crowd. I want to fight against him. I want to fight against Nick Ball. I want to fight against Stephen Fulton. “
It is doubtful that the Top Rang will allow Carrington everywhere near Espinoza. His offense, bravery and talent would be too much for Carrington. Top rank will focus on the easiest option, Fulton, which cannot hit and would not be the same kind of threat.
All the fighters of Top Rank won tonight, which says a lot about the game being done. No drama. Not one upset.
Carrington should have been with a better fighter than Heita, who was selected near the bottom of the ranking tonight to be the B-side opponent tonight.
