Former WBC Tus-Time Junior Middleweight Champion Serhii Bohachuk (26-2, 24 COs) won a louder-than-expected unanimous decision on the smart, 6’3 ″ Mykal Fox (24-5, 5 COs) in the Commerce Casino in Commerce, California. It was a fight that could easily have gone the other way around, after Fox or a draw was recorded.
Close rounds, broad scores
The scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 98-92. I scored the battle for Fox 97-93. There was a knockout that had to be credited to Fox.
The rounds were nearby, making it challenging to say who made the action better. Fox has slowly beaten the Bohachuk with a broad margin, which constantly misses him with his shots. Bohachuk, 30, was the aggressor by the constant, but repeatedly struck through Fox as he hurled forward. The punch of the gangly fox had nothing on them, but there were so many of them that it was difficult to give Bohachuk a lot of rounds.
A little controversy was involved in the 10th when Fox Bohachuk dropped a stitch when he came forward. The referee decided it a slip, but it looked like a clear knockout. Fox caught his clap perfectly and caught Bohachuk as he penetrated and dropped him.
It would not have changed the outcome of the fight if the ref knocked it out, but it would have made it closer. Even with the seemingly blown call, Fox seemed to have done enough to win or earn a draw.
It wasn’t a good performance by Bohachuk at all. Compared to his war against Vergil Ortiz Jr. Last August, it was nowhere a good effort. He never figured out the style of Fox and struggled in the piece when the cunning fighter started hitting him a lot.
Accuracy issues for Bohachuk
Bohachuk regularly missed his shots and sometimes caught Fox with a good shot. Bohachuk did not focus his bumps on Fox’s body because his accuracy would have increased. He missed so many shots to hit the elusive fox, and it looked like his hand-eye coordination was off. He looked like Rocky Balboa, repeatedly missing shots and chose apart. It was sometimes difficult to look at.
By contrast, Light Welterweight Southpaw Shohjahon ergashev Was much more accurate when he fought Fox in 2019. He contacted left hands and handled effectively with his height advantage. Egashev would remain out of reach and Then arrow forward to catch Fox with left hands.
