If you’re having trouble getting into your golf swing, maybe the lack of consistent hitting of the ball. That’s because the delivery (which is the first swing movement when you return), is a huge fundamental part that plays a huge role in your swing score.
For example, if your forehand is inconsistent, your club path is likely off, Your club face is probably not square and your body sequence may be a little weak.
In addition to practicing non-stop how to get the feel of good food, there are some great workouts that can help too.
In the following video, GOLF Top 100 Teachers Jason Baile shares one that uses a baseball and a glove, which can help you feel and see the critical components of a proper catch.
Improve your catch with a baseball and glove (seriously!)
“For someone like me who has struggled with takeout, I like this image (of using the ball and glove),” says Baile. “If I have a ball and a glove after I’ve fielded it, and I’m going to bring it out to throw it, I’m going to wrap my right wrist up as I take the ball out of the glove.”
He then demonstrates how many amateurs struggle with the grip tool, showing how much they roll their wrists, which can create the wrong kind of path.
“(The wrong way) is to rotate your right wrist (more behind you),” he adds.
But by feeling (or imagining) the same sensation you get when you take the ball out of the grip, you can keep your arms in the right spots and your club on plane—leading to more consistent ball strikes.
“If I pick up my golf club and I feel like I’m taking the ball out of the grip, I wrap my knuckles up to my right wrist, the club is slightly out of the hands, it’s square with the bow, and then I can set them to both hands on (the grip) to feel the same kind of driving action,” he says. “I tend to get the club rolling (behind me) quite a bit, so this image (of getting a baseball out of the glove) helps me a lot.”
So sure, it might seem funny to bring a baseball and gloves to the driving range, but you’ll have the last laugh with your friends when you start hitting straighter and longer shots thanks to better contact.
