Boots Ennis seen as a stylistic threat to Sebastian Fundora, says Stephen Edwards

Edwards said Fundora’s size and range created problems across the division, but identified Ennis as a rare exception because of his ability to close distance quickly and work inside effectively.

“I think Boots will snap Fundora,” Edwards told boxing analyst Brian Custer’s channel. “He’s athletic enough to jump in with big shots, he throws really good loop shots and he’s strong on the inside.”

He also highlighted Ennis’ conditioning, noting that sustained pressure can become a factor over time.

“Boots has great stamina. He doesn’t get tired when he fights,” Edwards said.

Although Fundora has built momentum with recent performances, Edwards pointed to defensive habits that can give opponents opportunities.

“Because as good as Fundora is, he doesn’t move his head a lot. You can hit him. He’s kind of a static target,” he said.

Ennis, who recently moved up to 154 pounds, has faced bigger opponents before, something Edwards believes works in his favor rather than against him.

Fundora’s 80 inch reach creates a literal “no man’s land” through which fighters must run just to touch him. If Ennis is tagged coming in, as he has been in his last few fights, the damage at 154 is going to feel a lot different than it did at 147.

“I’ve seen Boots box bigger guys. He actually likes it because they’re a big target for him,” Edwards said.

While Ennis’ athleticism is elite, his defensive losses are spot on, especially considering his recent outing against David Avanesyan, where he swallowed some shots he shouldn’t have.

Breadman Edwards thinks Ennis thrives against bigger guys, but there’s a difference between a “big” 154-pounder and a guy who looks like a small forward. If Ennis can’t find a way to get Fundora to respect his power early on, he’ll be forced to take 3-4 shots just to get one of those loop angles Edwards mentioned.

Over 12 rounds, it’s a lost math equation for most people. Fundora showed a massive chin and an incredible engine, so Ennis wouldn’t just be fighting a giant; he would fight a giant who wouldn’t stop throwing.
