Parma secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Bologna with a last-gasp winner as Christian Ordoñez scored in stoppage time.
The Derby dell’Emilia at the Estadi Renato Dall’Ara promised local rivalry. Bologna, in 10th place, tried to stop a worrying run of three straight league defeats. Parma, sitting 16th, were looking to gain momentum after a recent crucial win.
The match started with great intensity, but Bologna faced an immediate challenge. Midfielder Tommaso Pobega was shown a straight red card in the 18th minute. A serious foul left the home side playing with ten men for most of the game.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Bologna showed resilience. They worked hard to maintain their defensive shape. Parma struggled to make the most of their extra man in the first half.
Neither team managed to create meaningful clear chances. The first 45 minutes ended goalless. Bologna’s disciplined approach kept the visitors at bay.
At the break, Bologna needed to preserve their defensive solidity while looking for counter-attacking opportunities. The Parma manager likely urged his team to up the tempo and exploit the wider areas against the undermanned hosts.
In the second half, Parma tried to apply more pressure. S. Britschgi was shown a yellow card for holding on in the 49th minute. Bologna made tactical changes and brought on João Mário after the break.
Parma briefly thought they had found a breakthrough in the 69th minute. S. Castro guided the ball into the net, but the VAR intervened. The goal was later disallowed for offside, keeping the score level.
Adding to the drama, Parma also went down to ten men in the 79th minute. M. Troilo received a second yellow card for elbowing him, resulting in a red. This balanced the numbers in the field for the final stages.
With both teams down to ten players, the game opened. Bologna pushed forward in search of a winner, while Parma remained dangerous at the break. J. Lucumi was also booked for a run-in in the 76th minute.
In the middle of stoppage time, the deadlock was finally broken. In the 95th minute, substitute Christian Ordoñez found space. He drilled the ball home with an assist from H. Nicolussi Caviglia, securing a spectacular winner for Parma.
Bologna dominated statistically with 16 shots in total, although only 2 were on target. His expected goals (xG) stood at 1.22. Parma, despite their goal, registered just 5 shots in total, with an xG of 0.18, but had their only shot on target.
This unlikely victory is a huge result for Parma, which boosts their hopes of survival in Serie A. For Bologna, it is a frustrating home defeat, deepening their struggle for form and pushing them further away from European contention.
