Bob Arum ointment Keyshawn Davis as Vasily Lomachenko’s ‘Next Succession’ After Retirement

Promoter Bob Arum says Keyshawn Davis is the ‘next successor’ to replace Vasily Lomachenko for his top ranking after the retirement of Loma of today. Arum believes that Keyshawn (13-0, 9 COs) is the right man to fill the void left by former three division world champion Lomachenko.

Fans will not agree that Keyshawn is the one who takes over Lomachenko, but you can’t blame Arum that he wants him. He threw a lot of money into Davis’s career, and he wanted him to be a star. However, promoters cannot force the public to like a fighter if he does not beat the opposition at the elite level.

It worked at Arum to turn Tyson Fury into a star, and he has only two significant victories on his resume: He faded 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder. It is harder to turn a fighter into a mega star in 135, 140 and 147 because they have to fight good opposition. They can’t face old guys who are paper champions as we saw with Fury.

Unfortunately, Keyshawn’s credentials are nowhere as spectacular as Loma’s. Davis was beaten by Andy Cruz of Cuba in the 2020 Olympics and had to be satisfied with a silver medal. Lomachenko won two gold medals in the Okraine Olympics, and could have won a third and fourth place if he decided to stay in the amateurs.

As a professional, Vasily has won world titles in three weight classes. For Keyshawn To make it equal, he will have to move to 140 and 147 to win belts. With the right kind of matchmaking, Davis can win a second world title at 140, but he will not win titles at 147, as long as Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Brian Norman Jr.
