The Toronto Blue Jays reside in one of the toughest divisions in Major League Baseball, the American League East.
After finishing last in 2024 at 74-88, the Blue Jays have not won a division title in nine straight seasons.
In a division that includes the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox, the Blue Jays will need to stay aggressive to have a chance to compete.
However, the Blue Jays haven’t made any notable acquisitions this offseason, and one MLB analyst believes their setbacks go back longer than that when they failed to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a long-term deal.
“I think the Blue Jays really blew it a couple of years ago by not locking him up,” Mike Wilner said, via Foul Territory .

Wilner believes the Blue Jays are costing themselves at least hundreds of millions of dollars by not extending Guerrero when they could.
With the first baseman set to become a free agent after the 2025 season, the Blue Jays will either pay more to keep him or lose him to another team.
Guerrero debuted in 2019 and has spent all six seasons of his MLB career with Toronto.
In 2024, Guerrero played 159 games and batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBI and a .940 OPS.
Not only did the Blue Jays fail to improve drastically this offseason, but they could be losing their franchise player after the upcoming campaign.
