As he continues to observe the scene and hide in the background, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs once again issued a public challenge, placing the “Duck” tag on undefeated IBF World Welterweight Champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis placed
Cobbs is a welterweight contender known more for his quirky personality as opposed to his accomplishments inside the squared circle. However, Cobbs is a seasoned veteran looking for an opportunity to take part in a fight that could redefine his boxing career.
Blair “The Flair” Cobbs, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, began his boxing journey by winning 15 straight. In March 2022, Cobbs lost his unblemished record when he was stopped by Alexis Rocha in the 9th round.
Five months later, Cobbs would bounce back in a big way when he faced former WBO junior welterweight champion Maurice Hooker. In the opening round, Cobbs landed a big overhand right, followed by a flurry of shots that sent Hooker to the canvas.
Haker was able to get up, but Cobbs went on to score two additional takedowns in the second round. Cobbs was in complete control of the match from start to finish as he cruised to a unanimous decision win by scores of 97-90, 97-90 and 96-91.
After Blair Cobbs put together a very impressive performance, Golden Boy Promotions dropped the ball as they neglected to keep Cobbs active. Blair “The Flair” would go on to separate himself from Golden Boy and get a fight against a former four-division champion.
During the build-up to his fight against Adrien “The Problem” Broner, Blair Cobbs was comical, confident, intense and focused. At the end of the final Broner vs Cobbs press conference, Blair Cobbs shouted, “It’s my time! It’s my time! Wow!”
On fight night, Cobbs made an immediate statement when he hit Broner with a straight left that knocked out Broner’s tooth and sent the former four-division champion to the canvas. Broner was able to get up, but Cobbs dominated the rest of the fight as he earned a unanimous decision victory.
Since his win over Broner, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KOs) has put a fellow Philadelphia native on his radar. After watching Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) defeat Karen Chukhadzhian at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Cobbs snuck into the post-fight press conference and said why Ennis should fight him next .
“We know the two options you want to choose, but there’s still a third option,” Cobbs said. “That third option is the most exciting man in boxing, Blair “The Flair” fighting Jaron “Boots” Ennis in a big hit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, woo!
Promoter Eddie Hearn was quick to chime in while talking about the plan for Ennis to unify at 147 or fight a big name at 154. As time went on, an opportunity to unify never materialized, and recently Ennis turned down the opportunity to assist Vergil Ortiz. 154.
Because of the way things have unfolded for Jaron Ennis, his hometown rival is back on the scene, pushing for the chance to fight for the IBF welterweight title. During an interview with Fight Hub TV, Blair “The Flair” pleaded his case.
“You say, I want to move up to 154, and then somebody calls your bluff at 154, and then you quickly change your mind to say I want to stay at 147, and you can’t unify these titles because everybody has a fight .”
Blair Cobbs went on to say, “Why don’t we make the Blair “The Flair” fight happen, where we can have a big draw, big excitement in the sport of boxing at the welterweight division with two Philadelphia fighters? I have no idea what they do except duck.
34-year-old Blair Cobbs believes 27-year-old Jaron Ennis is a duck looking for the easy route to success. Right now, Jaron Ennis doesn’t have a fight scheduled, and until he finds an opponent, Blair Cobbs plans to apply constant pressure and try to secure that elusive title shot.
