Billy Horschel’s search to make his first team of Ryder Cup just got a big blow.
Pro 38-year-old notified through x On Tuesday morning he will undergo right hip surgery next week in Colorado. He will lose the next two months, but said he hopes to return by the end of summer or early autumn.
“After consulting my doctors and team, we will do a proper hip operation at the beginning of the next week in Colorado,” Horschel wrote. “Next to a unfortunate situation with so many excellent calendar events, but this is a preventative measure. I am already looking forward to starting rehabilitation, returning to practice and hope to return to the Golf Course in late summer/autumn.”
Horschel has made 12 startups this season. He lost five cuts and recorded the first two 10. He was tied to the 27th on RBC Heritage and decided to play the next week of Zurich Classic, but he withdrew due to Hip damage. This led to the decision to do operations.
The timeline is not great for the chances of the Ryder Cup of Horshcel.
The eight-time PGA Tour’s winner has been in a team of the presidents, but has never been named to a team Ryder Cup-even his dominant conclusion at FedEx Cup 2014 Play Offs led to the decision to delay the choice of captain’s elections. Horschel lost cutting in the first four Play -offit stops that year (barclays) and was tied for the second one week later before the three captain’s elections were made. He was not one of them, but he won the next two events (and the FedEx Cup title) to close the season.
Horsechel ranks 16th in Ryder Cup rankingwith the first six after the BMW championship in the middle of August qualified automatically for the team. The last six points will be the captain’s elections made by KEEGAN BRADLEYwho in 22 in the ranking is still trying to make the team himself.
Horschel’s time means that it will be almost impossible to make the team at the point, means that his only hope for a Ryder Cup Nod will be returning to the early edge of the time limit and the impression of Captain Bradley with some (many) heavy games in limited beginnings.
The Ryder 2025 Cup is September 26-28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, NY the last five Ryder cups have been won by the local team. Europe won 16.5-11.5 in Italy in 2023.
