Bill Haney still pushes theofimo Lopez fight, despite Fallout

Bill Haney has not yet stopped striving for the Theofimo Lopez fight for Devin Haney, despite the fact that Teo said he had been fired by Turki Alalshikh. Bill still mentions theofimo’s name on social media and says he ‘is tending’.

Bill Haney still wants theofimo

There was talk of a fight between Haney and Theofimo scheduled in Riyadh on August 16. It no longer looks viable after Lopez burned his bridges with Alalshikh. Bill is like a dog that does not abandon an old leg. Whatever the ambition Devin once had to conquer world titles, it seems that it is gone after he was stepped by Ryan Garcia and received a taste of millions.

Haney’s limited great options

Devin has limited options for big pay days without Ryan Garcia or Theofimo. There are no popular fighters on 140 except thee. At Welterweight there is only champion Jaron Ennis and Conor Benn. Ennis is not going to fight against a needy fighter like Haney, because he does not have a belt, and he comes from a disastrous performance.

The Lopez fight is now the biggest money maker for Devin, after canceling the Rematch with Ryan Garcia after his loss of Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on May 2.

Devin Haney: Businessman now?

Bill showed no interest in targeting any of the other Top 140 pounds, such as Gary Antuanne Russell or Richardson Hitchins. What some people say about Devin can be true. He is away from a fighter to a businessman which is only focused on money at this point. This is what sometimes happens, once fighters get a taste of money. They focus on getting nothing but big payday fights and rejecting something else. To wait for the big pay days to fall into their lap, it takes a year or longer.

Fans want Bill and Devin to forget about Theofimo. They want to see Haney (32-0, 15 COs) prove himself against one of the top fighters at 140 or 147. However, Bill and his son seem to have lost all interest in taking risky fights since their loss of Ryan last April.

They spent a whole year out of the ring until they returned against the faded Jose Ramirez on May 2. It was a terrible performance by Haney, who ran 12 rounds, and only a handful of bumps thrown into probably the most boring performance on the Times Square card.

If Haney was still interested in competing against the best and winning belts, he would have many options for his next battle. There are many contenders from 140 to 154 that Devin can fight and make good money. He probably won’t do that because his focus has changed.
