Indian National Cricket Team pacer Akash Deep might not have a long international career at the Test level. According to reports in the Telegraph, it is learned that the pacer will not be able to cement his place in the longest format of the game.
Indian National Cricket Team fast bowler Akash Deep was the unluckiest pacer for the team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Bengal fast bowler missed the first two games of the series against the Australian National Cricket Team and then replaced Harshit Rana for the third game at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Akash Deep Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 made his heart beat
Akash bowled his heart out and troubled even the Australian National Cricket Team but failed to back it up with the wickets. Luck was not in his favor either, as there were also some who fell off his bowling.
Akash Deep even hit the pads but again luck was not on his side as the ‘umpire’s call’ went against him. To make matters worse for him, the fast bowler was injured after the fourth Test and was ruled out of the final match of the series at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.
Akash was replaced by Prasidh Krishna who did a great job for the team and was instantly among the wicketkeepers. With not many wickets to his name and also with injuries, there are many speculations about his future with the Indian National Cricket Team.
If he comes out at his age (from XI), it could be the difference – BCCI official on Akash Deep
Pointing out Akash Deep’s poor bowling in Melbourne, the BCCI official said that if he is in and out of the team, then things will be tough for him. He added that the fast bowler also rules the backside, which will not work in his favour.
“In Melbourne, he sometimes fell either too short or too far. Also, given his age, if it was his age (11th), that gap could continue,” said a BCCI official. “And then, he has a back to worry about before his Bengal debut (in 2019),” The Telegraph reported on Monday.
Will learn that you get nothing on the plate in Test cricket – Sourasish Lahiri on Akash Deep
Former Bengal opener Sourasish Lahiri also spoke about Akash Deep’s performances in Australia and said that although he can swing the bat, his length is not ideal for picking wickets on Australian pitches. He said:
“Initially he was bowling a length. But then it didn’t take long for him to find the right length: six to eight meters in length, which makes the inclined person think about playing on the front or back foot.
“With his quick arm movement, he troubled Steve Smith at the MCG and hit the ball (into the batter) well. Yes, there were a few games and he missed his bowling. But it helps build your determination and makes you mentally stronger does.
