Best gear I’ve tried this year

Despite working in the golf business, I am a recreational golfer, just like most of you. I’m lucky if I play once a month. That being said, I enjoy new equipment as much as the rest of you and have the unique opportunity to try new things here and there while keeping my real job of ensuring that MyGolfSpy always has fresh content.

Of course, I’m more of a shoe guy. But I can appreciate a new set of irons or a good bag. Here are the pieces of gear I tried this year and really liked.

1. Irons Powerbilt Atlas UK

The photo doesn’t do these justice. Man, are they beautiful. And they feel just as good too. Am I good enough to play them? No. Do you bring them anyway just for fun? You betcha. There are a lot of small brands out there with good stuff… I would put Powerbilt up there with the best of them.

2. Callaway Elyte Mini Driver

I’ve had this club in my bag since it came out this year. For most of the year, it has completely replaced my driver. The fact that I can get enough distance out of it with the smaller head and shorter shaft has been great for my game. More open roads means more pale wedges, right?

3. Sunday Golf Loma S-Class

Who knew a small par-3 bag could be so beautiful? I usually bring my full bag to the range or short course. But after living with this little guy for a year, I won’t be going back to a full size bag. For these two specific use cases, it’s much easier to bring the Sunday Loma Golf. Heck, I’d probably play better overall if I took it off the next time I played 18.

I tend to wear out my gloves very quickly. I have been going back and forth between Ghost and Under Armor this year…. until I tried the Forelinks CabSoft handle. The fit is impeccable, the durability has been great and the kid behind the brand is just a solid dude. Give this one a go if you haven’t already!

5. Odysea Hydrolite millet

“Did you really recommend a $100 hat?”

Not enough. it’s only 99 dollars.

But I’ve been in Melin grind for a while. They are easily the best when it comes to fit, durability and performance. And yet, somehow, they made it even better with the new Hydrolite variant. It’s very good.
