Liverpool secured a third win in as many Premier League games so far this season as they secured a 3-0 success at Manchester United on Sunday.
After a tense opening, the visiting Reds took the initiative and showed no mercy as they twice punished Casemiro with goals from Luis Diaz. When Mohamed Salah grabbed the third, it effectively sealed the points even with over 30 minutes to play.
There were few bad performances to stand out from the weekend, but who were Liverpool’s best and weakest? Here are their most impressive players from the triumph at Old Trafford, courtesy of 90 minutes player ratings.
Luis Diaz – 9/10
Diaz has had his fair share of trash talk thrown at him over the past year or so. The Colombia international, not always the most clinical finisher in the final third, was not to blame for this Old Trafford nonsense with two well-taken goals.
Although his header was more of a trick, Diaz’s second goal was a deliciously placed strike into the bottom corner.
Now with three League goals in three games, the 27-year-old needs just six more to mark a personal best season since moving to Merseyside.
Honorable Mentions
Mohamed Salah – 8/10
Salah could have dropped a bit of a contract bombshell after Liverpool’s stunning win, but that shouldn’t take away from his masterfully creative outing at Old Trafford.
The Egyptian was sharp once again and provided two assists for Diaz’s goals. His clip at the back post was headed home before a strike was powerfully finished, and Salah got in on the act leaving Andre Onana with no chance Liverpoolthe third
Salah seems determined to make this season a special one, regardless of whether it will be his last at Anfield, and performances like this show just how motivated he is.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 8/10
Dominik Szoboszlai’s 2023/24 campaign faded disappointingly after an impressive start, although that was the story for many Liverpool players last season.
However, he is once again strong and powerful, driving forward and leading the visiting press from the front.
The Hungarian grabbed an assist by setting up Salah, which was just reward for his efforts.
Ryan Gravenberch – 8/10
Liverpool’s search for a ball-winning midfielder was a prominent story throughout the summer transfer window However, no such player arrived and Arne Slot was forced to look for an answer within his squad.
So far, Ryan Gravenberch has proven to be an inspired selection in front of the back four. The Dutchman patrolled that area of the pitch well, winning the ball back and intercepting errant passes, and he charged forward like a prime Mousa Dembele against United.
It’s still early days in that role, but Gravenberch appears to have the tools to play in Liverpool’s midfield long-term.
Diogo Jota – 6/10
No Liverpool player left Old Trafford with a tarnished reputation after Sunday’s win, but there will be selection headaches for Slot to worry about in the coming weeks.
One of them is up front, where Diogo Jota has played so far. Despite being an unsettling presence for Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez, the Portugal international wasn’t too involved throughout the game and had his only shot wide of the target. However, it is hardly the end of the world.
