Bernie Davis Rips Hearn for “Clout-Chasing” with Crawford

Trainer Bernie Davis says all promoter Eddie Hearn has to build Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is to use Terence Crawford’s name as a promotional tool. Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) has yet to beat anyone, and when he had the chance to fight Crawford, he chose not to.

Crawford’s name used as marketing fuel

Davis notes that ‘Boots’ hasn’t done anything in his career to become the star he needs to be, as he’s turned down the biggest fights offered to him. So, all his Matchroom promoter, Hearn, has to do is pump him up artificially by dropping Bud Crawford. That’s not how you do it when you’re a real one.

“That’s all they have to hang their hat on is Crawford,” coach Bernie Davis said MillCity Boxing about promoter Eddie Hearn only having Terence Crawford’s name to use to try and build Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’ popularity for doing nothing in his career.

A manufactured star, not a manufactured one

What Davis says rings true 100%. Hearn has nothing to promote Ennis with, other than using Crawford’s name for purposes of chasing influence. There’s nothing on ‘Boots’ empty resume to turn him into a star, and he’s about to turn 29.

“I had to let him know I wasn’t playing. I had to make a statement. If it had gone longer than it did, they would have had something to say,” Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis said. YSM Sports Mediareflects on his win over Uisma Lima.

Fans laugh at how Ennis bragged about his empty win over Lima, which was a worthless victory. No one had heard of this fighter, and he looked like someone was brought in to make ‘Boots’ look better than he really is. For Ennis to brag about the win shows what an underachiever he is.

“They can’t say anything. I took him out in the first round. I called everyone out. The ball is in their court. I did my part,” says Ennis.

Middleweight move could save his career

If ‘Boots’ moves up to middleweight, where he should have been in the first place, he wouldn’t have to call anyone out. He would have a lot of top fighters in that weight class who would want to fight him. But after 154, he’s not going to get the fights he wants unless Hearn overpays his opponents. He’s not going to do it.
