Edgar Berlanga says he wants to be an actor and “go to Hollywood” after getting a taste of what it’s like to be in front of the cameras for his fight against superstar Canelo Alvarez on Saturday.
The attention Berlanga has received due to his role as Canelo’s prop has gone to his head, leading him to believe that this will be a regular thing from now on. Unfortunately, this is not likely to happen.
This is Berlangs’s 15 minutes of fameand he will fade into obscurity if Canelo knocks him out, as most people believe will be the case.
Until now, Berlanga’s fights have received little attention from fans due to the low-level opposition his promoters matched him against, but now he is finally being seen by fans.
It’s alarming how Top Rank and Matchroom Boxing artificially created Berlanga’s career because he was never matched up against anyone well enough to earn the title shot against Canelo. This would never happen in other sports, where teams compete against the best to come out on top. Berlanga did the opposite.
“When you’re a superstar, you have to be able to take it and treat it like it’s nothing. That’s what stars are for,” said Edgar Berlanga on the Fight Hub TV YouTube websiteand talk about not being phased by the pressure of facing this superstar Canelo Alvarez on Saturday.
Berlanga is the super middleweight division’s version of Teofimo Lopez, a fighter who acts the same during interviews and doesn’t seem to have a full understanding. He’s not a superstar, and still won’t be even if he beats the 34-year-old Canelo.
To be a star, a fighter must stay on top without being protected by their promoters, and be kept away from quality opposition. If Berlanga were to become champion, he would likely be beaten in his first defense unless it was against lesser fighters.
“I have been asking for this fight for so long. So, now that I got it, I can’t wait. I think he thought I was going to push him or something because I saw a video of him doing it with his hands like he was tightening his hands,” Berlanga said about his face with Canelo at the last press conference.
Berlanga isn’t kidding about asking for a fight against Canelo for a long time. He should have fought the top contenders to deserve the fight because fans would feel better if he was fighting for a world title.
Berlanga’s last five opponents
– Padraig McCrory
– Jason Quigley
– Wanderer Alexis Angulo
– Steve Rolls
– Marcelo Coceres
“So, he thought I was going to push him or something, and he was going to swing at me. Maybe he’s nervous,” Berlanga said of Canelo.
“I love the lights, I love the cameras. i am a star After this I’m going to Hollywood. After boxing I want to go to Hollywood. I want to be an actor. To be an actor, you have to be used to cameras. I’ve been used to this all my life. This is normal for me. I’m just chilling. I’m in my element,” Berlanga said.
