It should be noted that the last time a competitive match was held at Chinnaswamy Stadium was in IPL 2025. Since then, the venue has been under strict surveillance following the tragic events of June 3, when 11 fans lost their lives during RCB’s post-victory celebrations. The incident prompted a comprehensive review of security measures and event management protocols around the stadium.
Chinnaswamy will host the main matches of IPL 2026 including the final
With the confirmation, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is all set to play a major role in the upcoming IPL season. The venue will host the tournament opener on March 28, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will begin their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Apart from the opening match, the Bengaluru venue will also host a play-off match and the grand finale of IPL 2026. This follows the IPL’s long-standing practice of allowing former champions to host the final, making Chinnaswamy one of the tournament’s most important venues this year.
The IPL governing body has currently released the schedule for the first two weeks of the competition only. At this stage, the stadium will host another high-profile clash on April 5 when RCB host their arch-rivals. Chennai Super Kings.
The government committee conducted a detailed inspection of the stadium
The clearance came after a detailed investigation by a committee appointed by Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara. The panel visited the stadium on Friday and examined various aspects related to security and match day operations throughout the day.
Officials checked the structural integrity, access points, emergency response and crowd control mechanisms around the venue. The aim was to ensure that the stadium was fully prepared to handle the huge crowds that usually attend IPL matches.
The final approval was given on Monday after a meeting between Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) representatives, RCB senior officials and members of an expert committee headed by G Maheshwar Rao.

RCB will split their home games between Bengaluru and Raipur
For IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play five of their home matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, not all of their home games this season will be played in Bengaluru.
Their two matches will be played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. The arrangement is part of a previously agreed partnership between the RCB franchise and the Chhattisgarh government, aimed at promoting cricket in the region and expanding the team’s fan base. Despite this split arrangement, Bengaluru will remain the main home venue for the franchise during the tournament.
Meanwhile, the franchise is yet to announce the official ticket sale date for the IPL 2026 matches in Bengaluru, though the process is expected to begin later this week as excitement for the new season builds.
