Bend It Like Beckham Sequel to the works after 22 years, the director confirms

More than two decades after he arrived in cinema and captured the hearts worldwide, a sequel to Bend -— as beckham is officially under development.

Director Gurinder Chadha has confirmed that a 2002 Classic Football Classic worship is launched, with the aim of launching it by 2027 to mark both the 25th anniversary of the film and the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The original, who starred in Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley, followed the story of Jess and Jules: two teenagers challenging the cultural and social norms to pursue their love for football. Packaged with laughter, tears, family drama and triumphant moments, quickly became one of the most Dear football movies of all time.

Now, Chadha says the moment is right to return to this world.

“Much has changed from the original movie,” he told the BBC. “But I think people still don’t think women have to play football. There are people who don’t take it seriously.”

Added that the explosion of interest to women’s football, especially after England Lionesses won the Euro 2025, has made the idea of a sequel to feel especially relevant.

While the form is still decided, whether it be a movie or a television series, Chadha hopes to re -part of the original cast and mocked the possibility of cameos of the current International of England.

“I’m pretty sure everyone will want to go back,” he said. “Everything is based on the script and if the original cast like it. I am very hard working to ensure -me that every character who brings again has a decent bow.”
