The second edition of this new event will head to the Serbian city next year after the inaugural meeting in Belgium.
Serbia’s capital Belgrade has been awarded the 2027 European Track and Field Championships, the second of which will debut in Brussels-Leuven, Belgium on April 12-13, 2025.
The decision was made on the first day of the meeting of the European Athletics Council in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia
Belgrade has a proud recent history of hosting major events and is the only city to have hosted the European Indoor Championships (2017), the World Indoor Championships (2022), the European Cross Country Championships (2013) and the World Championships (2024).
The organizers of this European Championship, scheduled for April 17-18, 2027, will be the Belgrade Marathon and the Serbian Athletics Federation, under the auspices of the Belgrade Municipality and the Ministry of Sports.
The event will also coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Belgrade Marathon.
The 2027 European Running Championships program includes 10km, half marathon and marathon, and organizers expect at least 25,000 participants across the three races, including Europe’s elite distance runners, who will compete for the mantle of European champion in both individual and team events. each of the three races on the schedule.
