In the 14th match Big Bash League 2024-25 (BBL) between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunderwere treated to a spectacular display of bowling by cricket fans Osama Mir. The right-arm leg-spinner from Melbourne Stars produced some jaw-dropping moments in the 6th over of Sydney Thunder’s innings. Cameron Bancroft and Oliver Davies on successive deliveries, set the tone for a riveting contest at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
Back-to-back strikes by Usama Mir
Bancroft, who seemed confident, fell prey to Mir’s clever speech. Attempting a risky reverse slide to a very full length ball, Bancroft completely misjudged the shot. The ball went in and hit the stumps, leaving Bancroft stunned and the crowd in awe. Bancroft departed after a well-crafted 21 off 16 balls, including two fours and a six, which marked a crucial breakthrough for the Stars.
Mir was not finished yet. He claimed his second wicket in dramatic fashion on the next delivery. Temptingly tossed the ball up, Mir pulled Davies into an ambitious drive towards long-on. The ball dipped sharply and Davies forced a mistimed shot that spun through the air. Showing incredible athleticism, Mir dived to his right to complete the stunning catch-bowling. Davies was sent back for a golden duck and stunned Sydney Thunder. The moment almost slipped as the ball briefly swung in Mir’s hands, but he held his own and sealed the ‘two-two’ spell.

Shining for Sam Billings Sydney Thunder
Despite an early setback caused by Mir’s brilliance, Sydney Thunder managed to post a competitive total of 182/8 in 20 overs thanks to the wicket-keeper’s brilliant knock. Sam Billings. The Englishman smashed 72 off 39 balls with nine fours and two powerful sixes at an extraordinary strike rate of 184.62. Billings’ innings set the Melbourne Stars a tough target of 183 runs, providing the foundation for the Thunder’s efforts. In reply, Stars could only manage 164/8, losing the game by 18 runs.
