Barcelona could reportedly make a move for some free agents, with defensive options being particularly considered, such as former Liverpool defender Joel Matip.
The 33-year-old remains a free agent following his departure at the end of his contract at Anfield, but Barca may look to snap him up as he would be useful cover at the back without costing a fortune.
according to All FilesMatip joins former Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels and former Atletico Madrid left-back Mario Hermoso on Barcelona’s list.
Matip was a top-flight player for Liverpool for many years and while he is now clearly past his prime, he could still be a useful addition to this Barcelona squad, providing a support option if needed.
One imagines that some LFC fans would surely even welcome Matip on a short-term deal if he were to play a similar replacement role, while also wishing him well at whatever new club he joins continuation
Matip’s transfer could be a smart move by Barcelona
The former Cameroon international would bring a lot of quality, experience and leadership to Hansi Flick’s youth team, meaning he would surely play a useful role off the pitch, as well as the rare occasion he gets on it.
It remains to be seen if this will happen definitively, however, as Fabrizio Romano’s information from this morning was that the Catalan giants are not moving for any free agents.

Speaking exclusively to Caught offside for his latest Daily Briefing columnRomano said: “Finally, it’s been reported that Barcelona are waiting for their deal with Nike to be signed and are then looking at some free transfer signings out of the window.
“However, I am not aware of any talks with any free agents at the moment. I don’t know where these reports have come from, but at Barça at the moment it is completely calm. I can guarantee that there are no negotiations now.”
Barcelona had a generally quiet summer, with Dani Olmo their main signing, although even he proved tricky to register in La Liga, although he eventually did.
