WBA junior middleweight champion Abass Baraou says he will be ” for a fight ‘against Jaron’ Boots’ Ennis next after seeing him winning the 154-pound interim title with a first knockout of Ushma Lima last Saturday night in Philadelphia.

Baraou throws his name into the ‘boots’ hat
Baraou (17-1, 9 COs) would like to test his skills against the unbeaten Ennis (35-0, 31 COs) if the match can be negotiated. He says he brings a lot of pressure and will look forward to seeing “boots” dealing with it.
“I would be a fight like this. I am willing to fight ‘boots’ ” said the WBA junior middleweight champion Abass Baraou Pro Boxing fans about his interest in defending Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
Eddie hearn eyes ortiz but baraou waits
Ennis and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, both named ABass’s name at the press conference after the fight this past Saturday night after doing a first round run against Lima (14-2, 10 COs) in the XFinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. However, they have both announced that, if possible, they want to fight against Vergil Ortiz jr.
“I look forward to having a big fight. I bring a lot of pressure. I would like to see how he deals with a fighter like me. He would be an opponent to prove I’m the best, ‘says Abass.
Baraou was elevated to the WBA 154 champion on September 21-23. This was shortly after the previous champion Terence Crawford evacuated the title on September 13. For Baraou to align himself for the height, he defeated the WBA-Tuss-interest junior middleweight champion Yoenis Tellez with a 12-Lound Unanim decision on August 23, 2025, in Orlez, Florida.
“Top rank has issued to make a unification with Xander. Vergil Ortiz is also an opponent I want to test myself. We look forward to making the next big fight happen. I like the Xander battle,” says Baraou.
Can Baraou Ennis request in a title show?
It would be a wise step for Baraou to go towards a unification against WBO champion Xander Zayas to pick up his belt to use as a lure to lure “boots” to face him. Having just one title may not be enough for Baraou to interest “Boots” and Hearn.
