A grand total of 30 of the best performing players of the 2023/24 season earned a lookwith plenty of discussion going on about who deserves to win the award.
To enjoy the fun, we a 90 minutes we decided to try and rank the top ten nominees and decide who we think should win 2024 Ballon d’Or award
Having been the star man of a Bayer Leverkusen side that won a rather remarkable Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, voters would be remiss not to have Florian Wirtz in their top ten.
His 22 goal contributions in 2023/24, including his Bundesliga hat-trick against Hoffenheim, will go down in Leverkusen history.
He might not have moved to Barcelona, but Nico Williams has at least earned a Ballon d’Or nomination.
That’s a consolation prize in our books.
The nomination is also well-deserved thanks in large part to his exploits at Euro 2024.
His man of the match performance, and the winning goal, against England in the final was very special.
Even in the last year of his legendary career, Toni Kroos was one of the best and most effective footballers in the world.
The German’s metronomic presence at the heart of Real Madrid’s midfield was fundamental to their Liga and UEFA Champions League double in 2023/24.
He already misses him a lot at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The fact that Euro 2024 was Dani Carvajal’s first European Championship at the age of 32 was quite surprising.
The fact that he won it was not at all.
The right-back enjoyed a remarkably trophy-laden 2023/24 season at both club and international level, adding Euro 2024 to La Liga and the UEFA Champions League which he won with Real Madrid.
Oh, and he also scored in the final of the latter. A beautiful
Sure, he didn’t have the best Euro 2024, but there’s no denying how fantastic Phil Foden was for Manchester City in the Premier League last season.
The Premier League title, PFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year awards he won are testament to his brilliance.
Kylian Mbappe may be the most talented footballer in the world, but he wasn’t the ‘best’ footballer in the world during the 2023/24 season.
That said, having scored 44 goals in 48 games, he was pretty close to being the best.
The favorite to win the 2024 edition of the Kopa Trophy, Lamine Yamal should also get a few Ballon d’Or votes this year.
Which, yes, is completely ridiculous because he is 17 years old.
The youngster established himself as a true superstar of world football in 2023/24 despite his tender age, helping Spain to Euro 2024 success along the way.
For much of last season, Jude Bellingham looked certain to win the Ballon d’Or.
In the end, though, his slight dip in form at the end of the campaign has seen him fall a bit down the pecking order.
Despite that, however, the impressive goalscoring run he enjoyed at the start of the 2023/24 season should be enough to earn him a few Ballon d’Or votes come the end of October.
23 goals from attacking midfield is nothing to be sniffed at after all.
No footballer in the world guarantees victories the way Rodri does.
Whether at club level with Manchester City – where he won another Premier League title – or at international level with Spain – where he won Euro 2024 – Rodri’s immense presence in the middle of the park guarantees trophies for any team he plays for.
He is an absolutely remarkable midfielder and rightly one of the favorites to win the Ballon d’Or this year.
It has to be Vinicius Junior, right?
The wide forward was completely unplayable when it mattered most for Real Madrid last season, scoring three goals in the Champions League semi-finals and final to win the trophy for a record 15th time.
No player stepped up in the big games like Vini did during the 2023/24 season.
