Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu needs a win on Joey Spencer on April 6 in a fight on Kayo Sports in Australia and Amazon Prime video in the US in the Newcastle Entertainment Center.
A must-win battle
If he has something, Spencer (19-1, 11 CO’s) is a winning battle for Tszyu. A loss of this man indicates Tim’s end as a big player. Of course, he can still hang around, but it wouldn’t be as before.
Tszyu (24-2, 17 COs) has lost its last two battles and has been winless since 2023. IBF junior middleweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev destroyed him in three rounds on October 19. For that, Tim lost his WBO 154-Pond title to Sebastian Fundora through a 12-round decision last March 30. The defeat may have taken more from Tszyu than anyone would have realized because he looked like a shell of himself in his fight against Bakhram.
Tszyu has to adapt if things go badly against Spencer because he couldn’t do it against Murtazaliev. There were no adjustments by Tim after being dropped three times in round two. He just kept going forward, throwing power and being knocked down.
“This is my salvation tour. I come stronger, hungry and ready to prove a point. There is no relief in-no rise fighting non-just straight into the fire with a very, very good fighter in Joey Spencer, ‘says Tszyu. “He is a real fighter, a dangerous opponent and exactly the kind of challenge I yearn for.”
Tim is a little ominous here, because Spencer is a tune-up, but of a high level. He is an additional contender who acted in class once in his career and was destroyed by Jesus Ramos on March 25, 2023 in seven rounds.
“We chose the deep end. No safety nets, no warm -ups. Sink or swim – I’m here to make a statement. If I have to walk through fire to get back on top, so be it. That’s what I live for, ”says Tszyu.
