Former Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte has revealed the club’s confidence he will prove his innocence at his 115-count financial mismanagement hearing which begins on Monday.
After a lengthy process of gathering evidence and preparing for trial, City and the Premier League will finally face off in a hearing expected to last around ten weeks and expected to reach a verdict before the beginning of 2025.
city Officials have always publicly stressed their innocence and Laporte, who left the club in 2023, has now revealed they shared the same message behind the scenes.
“When I was there and the news broke, the sporting director (Txiki Begiristain) and the chief executive (Ferran Soriano) came and told all the players and the staff that we can all be very calm because Man City have not not a single rule broken,” he said Daily Mail.
“We were told everything was fine, so we all think City will be fine. I don’t think there is any problem.
“As Pep Guardiola always says, if something has been done wrong, they will have to pay for it.”
Manager Guardiola recently backed his team to clear their name and admitted frustration towards rivals who are praying for his downfall, insisting the evidence would speak for itself.
