The Australian national cricket team posted a humiliating record against the Indian national cricket team during the inaugural Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). On Day 2 of the match, the team under Pat Cummins recorded their second lowest innings overall against India at home.
India took a 46-run lead in the first innings of the BGT 2024-25 in Perth on Saturday, November 23. Australia were bowled out for just 104 runs in 51.2 overs. India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah scored his 11th 5-wicket haul in Test cricket, while debutant Harshit Rana took three wickets.
Australia reached a 43-year low against India in Test cricket
The hosts resumed the second day’s play at 76/6 with Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc. Bumrah dismissed Carey who scored 21 runs in his first over. Rana then dismissed Nathan Lyon but Mitchell Starc smashed a boundary to help Australia avoid their lowest Test score against India.
Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood added the hosts’ highest partnership in their innings. The pair added 25 runs off 110 balls for the tenth wicket. Starc lost his temper and was dismissed for 26 runs off 112 balls. Harshit mistimed the big shot against Rana and Rishabh Pant completed the catch.
The Aussies’ first-innings total of 104 marked their second-lowest Test score against India at home, the lowest being 83 in Melbourne in 1981. This score is also the fourth lowest total Test total against India.

Aussie Top Order rocked by Jasprit Bumrah on Day 1 in Perth
Earlier, only 17 goals were scored on Day 1. India were bowled out for 150 in the first innings in difficult batting conditions. Josh Hazlewood took four wickets while Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh took two each. Nitish Kumar Reddy was India’s top scorer with 41 runs off 59 balls.
Jasprit Bumrah rocked the top order with a stunning spell of 3-9 from six overs. He dismissed debutant Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith. Virat Kohli dropped a direct catch from Bumrah to Marnus Labuschagne. Mohammed Siraj scored twice on the opening day.
