It is Tuesday, March 10.
I’m in Portland, Oregon visiting family and running some errands.
I was in an Uber on my way back from seeing my best friend. We struck up a conversation with the Uber driver about running. I of course told him I write for RunBlogRun.com and do some work for BBC sport as needed.
We talked Cooper Lutkenhaus. then, Cole’s stool and if he could win the 1500m and 5000m at LA 2028 (just a note, I think he can). Then we talked about it The end of the Los Angeles Marathon. My driver, a former runner, loved it Nathan Martin, a high school cross country coach from Jackson, Michigan, had won by 18/100ths of a second over a collapsing Micheal Kamau, as Tony Revis noted in his story. Tony Reavis weaves the story into a multi-layered piece about the race, the competitors and what happened at the end of the marathon. It’s, well, tempting. Thanks, Tony!
The video of the finish is EVERYWHERE. Readers saw it on three major networks, plus all over social media. Nathan Martin has become a viral sports moment across all platforms.
What is the full story? We go to Tony Revis for that.
Tony Revis is a longtime observer, prognosticator and evangelist for the sport of road running. He is sometimes over-enthusiastic, but his writing is accurate. His piece on the 2026 LA Marathon tells a nuanced story, and here’s what you need to know.
